So cool… I was honoured when contacted by the super talented journalist Tao Sheng, Editor of Chinese Magazine – Rise Weekly. She has featured the Jump for Joy Photo Project and my fundraising efforts for the Jump for Joy Photo Mural 2.0 BIG JOY.

She discovered my project through my Instagram feed (social media rocks). We met up to chat about the mural, how people can get involved, and even be in the mural by pledging on the Indiegogo Campaign.

I was happy to share a few the fun pics of amazing people, doing good things in the world who have taken time to be part of the project so far. We even talked a bit about me doing a Jump for Joy mural in Beijing one day! :)

But first, I will need to raise the funds for the 18,000 sq ft Jump for Joy Photo Mural 2.0 BIG JOY I’m working on in the DTES of Vancouver. Right now, I have less than 17 days to raise the remaining $12,000 or, I wont have the money to create this epic wall of joy.

I need your help to make this massive wall of joy a reality. Help spread joy – follow this link and make a pledge of any amount. Every little pledge counts and helps spread joy around the world.

A warm hearted thank you and have a wonderful day!

This is a little section of the first Jumping mural I made last summer, the new Jump for Joy Photo mural I will create this year will be very similar only on a much larger wall and in a more exposed location – The corner of Abbot and West Pender Street (DTES) Vancouver BC Canada.

I have a lot to do before even beginning the mural, most importantly – raising the funds to make it happen and taking at least 100-200 more jump for joy photos over the next few months – thats a lot of jumping photos!

I have put together a Kickstarter campaign and as soon as Im able to get an intro video produced, I will publish it and begin fundraising. I would very much appreciate your help in spreading the word once the campaign starts.. and if you are able to donate to the project and help spread the joy – that would be even more amazing :)

I will keep you posted as things progress.

Have a wonderful day!

A new #Vancouver @JumpforJoyPhoto #Mural is in the works! Happy to announce partnership w @FreeOfViolence!!

It’s official! I’m making a new – even bigger – Vancouver jump for joy photo mural :)

Two weeks ago my Jump for Joy mural was removed. A couple of days later, I wandered around looking for potential walls to make a new mural and… I came across this wall and knew this was the one.

IMG_7025

I immediately went into the print shop in the building and asked who owned the building. I was told it belongs to BC Housing. I looked them up and found they were only a few blocks aways so went straight to their office, they said I would need to speak to Atira Women’s Housing. Atira is a community-based organization that supports all women and children who are experiencing the impact of violence committed against them.

I looked up Atira’s location and went to the leasing office in Coal Harbour.. they told me the number to call, which I did, and had the most wonderful response. 1 or 2 emails and we scheduled to meet today..

Now, I am proud to announce that I am partnering with the Atira Women’s Resource Society and making a massive mural on the corner of Abbott And Pender St. in the most amazing location situated between Downtown Vancouver, Chinatown and Gastown aka DTES :)

Let the fundraising extravaganza and jumping photo blitz begin!

I’ve already started preparations for a Kickstarter Campaign to raise the funds as I would love to get started on the mural asap .. at the same time, I will need to do at least 4 shoots a day over the next couple of months to have enough photos to for the mural.

My last mural was 9000 sq ft, this wall is the same width, but has 3 more stories so a very rough guess is that it is around 20,000 sq ft! So thats a lot of wall to cover with jumping joy and a lot of funds to raise to make it happen.

Once I have the exact square footage I will finalize the budget and begin the Kickstarter. Stay tuned and please support the project if you can :)

you can change anytime you like… @julien

“You don’t know anyone at the party, so you don’t want to go. You don’t like cottage cheese, so you haven’t eaten it in years. This is your choice, of course, but don’t kid yourself: it’s also the flinch. Your personality is not set in stone. You may think a morning coffee is the most enjoyable thing in the world, but it’s really just a habit. Thirty days without it, and you would be fine. You think you have a soul mate, but in fact you could have had any number of spouses. You would have evolved differently, but been just as happy. You can change what you want about yourself at any time. You see yourself as someone who can’t write or play an instrument, who gives in to temptation or makes bad decisions, but that’s really not you. It’s not ingrained. It’s not your personality. Your personality is something else, something deeper than just preferences, and these details on the surface, you can change anytime you like.” – Julien Smith

you can learn something or experience something from a different perspective…

“Life is a repeated cycle of getting lost and then finding yourself again. There are many smaller cycles within that cycle where you get lost to a smaller degree and then remember yourself again. Sometimes you do it to yourself on purpose, consciously or unconsciously. Every time you get lost it is so that you can learn something or experience something from a different perspective.” ― Jay Woodman

Wildness reminds us what it means to be human… Terry Tempest Williams

“To be whole. To be complete. Wildness reminds us what it means to be human, what we are connected to rather than what we are separate from. Finding beauty in a broken world is creating beauty in the world we find.” – Terry Tempest Williams

Focus on what brings YOU joy… @1lahart

“Do what makes YOU happy. Focus on what brings YOU joy. Appreciate and do more things that make YOU smile. Live your life for yourself. You matter! You count! You’re deserving of true happiness! This is YOUR life. Live it to the fullest! Live life with no regrets.” ― Stephanie Lahart

An email from Joe Carlson about the #Vancouver #JumpforJoyPhoto #Mural @MuralityArt @eyoalha

I received this touching email yesterday from a fellow named Joe Carlson. I went by to see what had been done…

They did a great job of pasting back pieces that had started to peel off due to water damage… unfortunately, some of the repairs were made with sections of my unused posters randomly pasted over top of the mural like big mismatched Band-Aids (as the artist I would have made different choices for my work so wish I had been there myself). However, it is the thought that counts. I am very appreciative of whoever took the time to voluntarily repair the water damaged areas pealing off the wall.

Thank you Amalia and whoever your friends are that did the work…

Joe gave me permission to share his lovely email with you, please take a moment to look through his wonderful photographs here: joecarlsonthroughthelens.com

Hello Eyoalha;

My name is Joe Carlson, at the end of January, I was downtown and found your amazing mural. I ended up at the mural twice in 3 days.I hung around and got some cool shots of your mural, people in the lane and the 2 gentlemen sprucing up your mural.

I posted my photos on Facebook, people were surprised at where the mural was and thought it was a great idea and very cool…

I just thought you would like to know that your work was appreciated.

I did not attach the photos that I took , I thought it would be easier for you to see them at my website: joecarlsonthroughthelens.com

This is what I said on Facebook:

“I was downtown on January 26th to do some street photography and found this mural in a lane off of Main and Pender. I stayed for a while and took some photos of the mural and some people. I saw that it was called the Jump for Joy photo project. I noticed that some of the mural was peeling away from the wall of the building. (this comment will make sense in a moment) I went on line to find out what the project was, this is what it says:

“Completed August 4, 2014: 9000 sq. ft. Jump for Joy Photo Mural in the lane way of 161 East Pender Street, Vancouver BC Canada. The mural is a compilation of photos of almost 200 people jumping for joy in different parts of Vancouver. The photos have been enlarged to 4×4 ft. and printed on 11×17 sheets cut and pasted together, then pasted to the wall.”

On January 28th I was back downtown and was walking by the mural and noticed a workman on a ladder fixing the mural. I spoke to the gentleman holding the ladder and found he was a friend of the person who owned the building. They were there volunteering to do some repairs to the mural. I stayed for a while talking and taking some photos. They were still working when I left. I just thought it was a cool little story that evolved by visiting the same place twice over 3 days. It’s amazing who you meet when wandering and how creative and talented people are….”

Take care, Joe

something that nourishes your soul and brings joy…

“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.” ― Jean Shinoda Bolen

be excited to be alive…

“You ruin your life by tolerating it. At the end of the day you should be excited to be alive. When you settle for anything less than what you innately desire, you destroy the possibility that lives inside of you, and in that way you cheat both yourself and the world of your potential. The next Michelangelo could be sitting behind a Macbook right now writing an invoice for paperclips, because it pays the bills, or because it is comfortable, or because he can tolerate it. Do not let this happen to you. Do not ruin your life this way. Life and work, and life and love, are not irrespective of each other. They are intrinsically linked. We have to strive to do extraordinary work, we have to strive to find extraordinary love. Only then will we tap into an extraordinarily blissful life.” — Bianca Sparacino

Great people do things before they’re ready…

“Great people do things before they’re ready. They do things before they know they can do it. And by doing it, they’re proven right. Because, I think there’s something inside of you — and inside of all of us — when we see something and we think, “I think I can do it, I think I can do it. But I’m afraid to.” Bridging that gap, doing what you’re afraid of, getting out of your comfort zone, taking risks like that — THAT is what life is. And I think you might be really good. You might find out something about yourself that’s special. And if you’re not good, who cares? You tried something. Now you know something about yourself. Now you know. A mystery is solved. So, I think you should just give it a try. Just inch yourself out of that back line. Step into life. Courage. Risks. Yes. Go. Now.” — Amy Poehler

Possibility. Creativity. Courage. Love. Inspire. Believe. Accomplish. Faith. Adventure. Lead. Play. Connection. Force. JOY.

I like the way these words feel. I’m excited and encouraged to take action, to create beauty, use my creative power to express and connect with the energy of these words this year. I know already that this will be an incredible year, lets make the most of it. Enjoy!
