This is Sarah Daniels. We had just finished a really fun Big Love Ball so what better way to wrap up the day then a little jumping around by the ocean in White Rock :) Sarah has the most wonderful, playful energy – so fun to shoot! www.sarahdaniels.ca
To my surprise the Vancouver Jump for Joy Photo Mural was removed yesterday. I discovered it by chance as I passed by in the morning. I knew it would be coming down eventually and it was starting to come apart on its own but it was still quite emotional to see it coming down. I wish I’d had a heads up that it was coming down but I’m glad I chanced upon it before it was gone. A lot of love and joy from a lot of people went into creating that mural. It was an incredible experience and I’m grateful to Amalia Liapis and Murality for the opportunity to share my art with the world. The good news is… I can make another mural! All I need a new wall and I can get started :)
This is Stephen. We met up for our jumping joy adventure and took a walk along the Stanley Park seawall in Vancouver to his favourite place – Siwash Rock. I love doing shoots with people in a place that has meaning to them.
“She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water. She knows nothing of borders and cares nothing for rules or customs. ‘Time’ for her isn’t something to fight against. Her life flows clean, with passion, like fresh water.” ― Roman Payne
This is Dawn. This jump for joy shoot was quite the jumping adventure, Dawn must have jumped a couple of hundred times all around Gastown. Instead of getting tired, she seemed to get more energized every time :) I love it when people have fun jumping around.
This is Eugene Suyu Founder and CEO of the 3D Printing company Tinkerine I pulled him out of his busy schedule to jump around a little :) A fun way to mix things up in your day. Get out and play a little today!
When spring hits in Vancouver, the city comes to life… it’s a beautiful time to celebrate and get out and play. This is my super hero jump for joy photo :) Enjoying the warm sunny weather… Life is good. Feeling inspired to do more jumps on my own… lets see what I come up with.
This is Marissa. Always full of energy and on the go. She did the most daring jumps of all in these crazy high heals – don’t try this at home! She has been involved in many different causes, including running marathons in Costa Rica to build schools in Ethiopia and community projects with the purpose of getting youth off the streets in the Vancouver Eastside. href=”www.capitalcorefinancial.com” title=”www.capitalcorefinancial.com” target=”_blank”>www.capitalcorefinancial.com
This is Lilou. We met in Kauai, Hawaii a couple of years ago and instantly hit it off. She has incredible energy, and is a pure joy to be around. We had great fun together jumping around. Lilou travels the world interviewing people about everyday wisdom and inspiration on Lilou Mace TV check her out.
This is my mom, Thais. She’s always been a child at heart. Adventurous, courageous, rebellious and fiercely independent. Thank you for your endless generosity and for continuously being my biggest fan no matter what I do :) Happy Birthday Mama!
“…here’s the thing: nothing is guaranteed. So if you want something, go get it. If you love someone, show them. If you think you are owed anything beyond this moment, you are in for a wake up call of the hardest kind. The truest wake up call there is. And that is that there are no guarantees. That the time is now. That if we spend our lives saying “I can’t.” or “I am too busy.” we are missing the beauty.” – Jennifer Pastiloff
These guys sent in a great jump for joy photo to me via twitter while I was fundraising for the Vancouver Jump for Joy Photo Mural and it made me so happy that I went out to YVR do a few jump pics of them myself. They have some pretty awesome jumping moves.. they even made it into the mural!
“Experiencing pleasure regularly is more impactful than a foot rub or a delicious meal may seem. It is actually an essential part of a healthy life that helps relieve stress and has the power to change your brain chemistry. Pleasure is vital to your health, happiness and overall well-being.” – Terri Cole
This is Linda. I met her in Beverly Hills, California. I think I chose the most un-Beverly Hills looking backdrop for our shoot and love how these jumps turned out. It looks like Linda is playing with the shadow and you can really feel how much fun we had and can feel her joy. Linda works as a healer, you can check out her work here: www.aliveliving.net
“Self-respect cannot be hunted. … It comes to us when we are alone, in quiet moments, in quiet places, when we suddenly realize that, knowing the good, we have done it; knowing the beautiful, we have served it; knowing the truth we have spoken it.” – Whitney Griswold
This is Farrah. I met her in Los Angeles. This jump shoot was a special day for me as it was the first day Jump for Joy Photo Project was imagined. After a fun day on the beach doing jump photos together, we sat on her roof top in Venice, California and imagined how wonderful it would be to take Jump for Joy Photos around the world… :)
Farrah gave me a little gift with this note inside which always reminds me that anything is possible:
“My own heroes are the dreamers, those men and women who tried to make the world a better place than when they found it, whether in small ways or great ones. Some succeeded, some failed, most had mixed results… but it is the effort that’s heroic, as I see it. Win or lose, I admire those who fight the good fight.” – George R.R. Martin
“At bottom every man knows well enough that he is a unique being, only once on this earth; and by no extraordinary chance will such a marvellously picturesque piece of diversity in unity as he is, ever be put together a second time.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
This is Dani. This was our second jump for joy shoot together. The first was on the top of a mountain in Whistler, this time we hit the streets in her neighbourhood in Railtown / Gastown in the DTES of Vancouver. Dani and I had a blast and did some fun slo-mo video shots too which I will post if I can figure out how to get them off my phone :) Another amazing day of laughing and jumping joy. Lern more about whats happening in this neighbourhood in http://gastowngazette.com/
This is my dear friend Wendy. I am so blessed to have taken many of the photos for her Big Love Ball project and she has introduced me to several of the people featured jumping for joy. As much as I love sharing joy, I also love spreading love.. a perfect combination :)
Take a look through her feature (ignore the repeated answer… my error, I clearly need an editor! ;)http://eepurl.com/6WxCP
“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” – Buddha
This sweet girl is Joslyn. I always love taking photos of kids jumping for joy, its sometimes more challenging getting the timing right because they follow thier own beat – which is so beautiful – and the act of jumping around and being joyful is so present in kids. Always fun.
“I will go on adventuring, changing, opening my mind and my eyes, refusing to be stamped and stereotyped. The thing is to free one’s self: to let it find its dimensions, not be impeded.” – Virginia Woolf
“You have to do hard things to be happy in life. The things no one else is doing. The things that frighten you. The things others can’t do for you. The things that make you question how much longer you can hold on and push forward. Because those are the things that define you. Those are the things that make the difference between existing and living – between knowing the path and walking the path – between a life of mediocrity and a life filled with happiness and success.” – Marc and Angel Hack Life
