Playing in the streets and jumping for joy with Bernd Steinhauser

Bernd Steinhauser photographed by Eyoalha Baker for Jump for Joy Photo Project and Palm Springs Cultural Center Artist Residency

I had set up to do a jumping photo with Heinz and we were about to get started when Bernd, his husband arrived. He was so sweet, he had come to watch, cheer and document… and of course, I invited him to do a jump as well. Heinz and I were doing his jumps near the intersection when he arrived, so Bernd’s job was to call out “CAR!” when a car was coming so Heinz and I could get out of the way. It was fun and reminiscent of playing in the streets as a kid. Then it was Bernd’s turn. I had seen this passageway that was mostly shadowed and wanted to play with the light to make it look like a tunnel. I love how these turned out, and it was a super fun jumping session with both of them.
