Debbie Chamberlain sharing jumping joy at Wong Farms

Debbie Chamberlain photographed by Eyoalha Baker for Jump for JOy Photo Project and Palm Springs Cultural Center Artist Residency

It was so lovely to be invited by Debbie and her husband Ron to spend the day at Wong Farms, one of the vendors at the Palm Springs Cultural Center Certified Farmers Market there is really something magical about the land and the people who live and work here. And, the food they grow tastes delicious because its grown and harvested with love. Debbie had a sore toe, and masses of farm work to do, but it didn’t stop her from taking a few minutes to show us around the farm and share some joy.

Get to know a little more about Debbie:
Q: What inspires you to jump for joy?
I jump for joy when I wake up every morning to the view of the Salton Sea and the field of our crops and being able to work at what I love doing.

Q: How was your experience doing the jumping photos?
I was not too interested because we are in the middle of a very busy tomato harvest season. However, if the image of jumping for joy will encourage others to find their passions and experience a joy for life I am all for it. So many individuals do not realize that sometimes the joy in life is right in front of them and if they would only reach out and work to make it happen.

Q: How do you describe the feeling of joy?
Joy is peaceful happiness that you are grateful for the life you are blessed to experience. It is what puts a smiling grin on your face or makes you chuckle. Joy is a simple feeling that you should experience daily from a many different experiences.

Q: What is your greatest passion in life?
My greatest passions are to share with my family and friends the joyful experiences throughout life. And second is my passion to grow the very tastiest food on earth for others to enjoy.

Q: How do you feel about being part of a community project that promotes joy?
I am not sure if the images and the background comments of those in the images will promote more joy, but I am hopeful.

Q: If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?
Today I am doing the “anything”, I am farming and I have my family close by.

Q: What are you working on or creating?
I am working on the artistic side of my business marketing materials. I also dabble in live plant arrangements for my landscaping.

Q: Mini bio or something special you want to share.
I am a farmer in the Coachella Valley. I live and work in paradise.

Thanks so much for inviting us to your heavenly farm, for the delicious tomatoes you sent us home with and for sharing your joy Debbie!
