Creating joy in downtown Palm Springs with Victor Tort

Victor Tort photographed by Eyoalha Baker for Jump for Joy Photo Project and Palm Springs Cultural Center Artist Residency

Victor and I met in downtown Palm Springs, his energy is very warm and friendly so we immediately felt like old friends. We wandered around and tried several different locations and every time I was amazed at his athletic ability and creative jumping styles, he is a professional personal trainer after all.

We had very nice conversations about the importance, and power of joy and the impact it can have on people’s lives. We also spoke more specifically about Puerto Rico, where Victor is from, and the need and impact sharing joy could have on the moral of people living on the island which is still devastated, and without power and water in many areas, 6 months after hurricane Maria. I love the idea of sharing joy with people in Puerto Rico, so we are meeting up to see if there is a way we can make that happen.

Get to know a little more about Victor:
Q: What inspired you to jump for joy?
A:
The variety of pictures, colors, places, backgrounds and more caught my attention and made me read more about the Jump for Joy Photo Project! I liked the idea of jumping, smiling and taking a picture and being part of the mural here in Palm Springs!

Q: How was your experience doing the jumping photos?
A:
As soon I meet Eyoälha, I felt the joy of being part of her project, shes is super positive, very happy and super easy to work with. Nothing on paper, we started photographing 1 or 2 shots in differents spots, walking, talking, sharing topics on things we care about. We walked and took pictures until we both had some pic’s we liked! Well, the very first picture we took we liked right away.

Q: How do you describe the feeling of joy?
A:
Waaooo!!! For me it’s super amazing! At the end of the photo session the energy and the happiness on my soul was happy and joyful. I asked Eyoälha if she can bring this project to Puerto Rico, that’s where I came from. I want to see her project there, my people need this in the island!!

Q: What is your greatest passion in life?
A:
My work as a Personal Trainer, NKT Practitioner and Movement Specialist. I’m very passionate about what I do, helping people to become stronger, mentally and physically! Besides my job, cycling and making videos!

Q: How do you feel about being part of a community project that promotes joy?
A:
Being part of this project really makes me feel like I am part of the community! It feels good!

Q: If you could do anything in the world, what would it be?
A:
Tough question! I don’t really know, but for sure I always support being kind, love and respect for humans and for nature…

Q: What are you working on or creating?
A:
Drone videos are my artistic side.

Q: Mini bio or something special you want to share.
A:
Thank you Eyoälha Baker for allowing me to be part of your project and for make me feel like part of the community of Palm Springs!
