It was an instant energy boost meeting Evy at “That Pink Door”. I was concerned about taking photos at this location as this is a private residence, but just as Evy was explaining that she had emailed and gotten permission from Sean (the owner of the house)… Sean came out the front door and said hello, we all got to meet, give thanks and big hugs in person 🙂
Silliness and lots of laughing ensued as soon we started doing the jumping photos and Evy and I fed off of each others excitement. Supper fun day!
Get to know a little about what makes Evy jump for joy:
Q: What inspires you to jump for joy?
A: Pink polka dots, pizza, and puppy kisses!
Q. What was your experience doing the jumping photos?
A: I loved jumping in front of “That Pink Door.” It has always been my secret desire to jump in front of that particular 10 foot door, so jumping for joy in my pink polka dotted dress was a dream come true.
The best part for me was when Eyoalha started jumping for joy, too, because she was so excited taking the photographs. We were jumping and laughing together. So much joy!
Q: How do you describe the feeling of joy?
A: Joy is the sheer bliss I feel when I’m living in the moment. Joy has made me a happier person, and, because it’s infectious, the people around me are more joyful, too.
Q: What is your greatest passion in life?
A: I’m passionate about being happy and bringing more happiness into the world.
Q: How do you feel about being part of a collaborative community project that promotes joy?
A: Absolutely thrilled! Can we do this again? 🙂
Q: If you could do anything in the world, what would it be? Why?
A: If I could do anything, I would have a magic power to make everyone healthy and happy. I smile and laugh all the time, so I guess you can say that I am presently working towards making it happen, but I wouldn’t call it “work.”
Q: What are you working on?
A: I’m a children’s book author/photographer of 12 books. I am now working on my very first book for adults about my wacky mom, Kimiko Kajikawa (I currently write under my mother’s name). I’m ½ Japanese, and my mom is from Tokyo and totally hilarious. I’m having fun putting together a book about all the wacky things my mom says and does — and, believe me, she is a hoot!
When My Wacky Mom is published, I will blog using the domain MyWackyMom.com. It makes me happy that it’s a feel-good book that will make people laugh.
Q: Mini bio or something special you want to share.
A: Growing up half-Japanese was not always easy for me. Some kids called me names like “chink” and “slanty eyes” and even threw rocks at me. Surprisingly, my husband is also half-Japanese and our other ½ is exactly the same mix: English, Irish, and German, and we are both left-handed. And, no, we are not brother and sister! lol
I love that Palm Springs is a loving, diverse, and accepting community. I feel accepted and joyful here.
This is my fourth year as Palm Springs snowbird. Every year I am here, I grow more attached to the Coachella Valley. My husband and I have stayed in 4 different neighborhoods and each has its own unique personality: Movie Colony, Mesa, Indian Canyon, and Vista Las Palmas. Palm Springs brings me great joy!
