I met Devon Boorman is one of my fellow TEDxEastVan speakers. He came out to jump around and help share some joy recently with his friend Mathus and some swords… we all had some great laughs and got these awesome pics too.

Devon Boorman

Q: What inspired you to jump for joy?
A:
Swords and jumping just seemed like an epic idea!

Q. Your experience doing jumping photos?
A:
Even when you’re swinging a sword over your head while jumping there’s something inherently gleeful and silly about doing it. Screaming while doing it also added to the elation.

Q: How do you describe the feeling of joy?
A:
A bursting and welling of energy from within radiating outward.

Q: Your greatest passion?
A:
Swordplay has been a lifelong passion of mine. I love the graceful and powerful connection I have with this slender and deadly tool. Also pitting ones skills against another in a dance that is both competitive and collaborative is an amazing experience.

Q: Your driving force?
A:
Helping others be their most excellent selves. I have always been compelled by helping others go on their most profound journeys or join me on mine.

Q: Your philosophy?
A:
Great deeds are done with baby steps. Millions of them. So set your sites, set a rhythm, and keep on keep’n on.

Q: Anything in the world?
A:
I want to combine my two great loves of swordplay and dance. It’s percolating.

Q: What are you working on?
A: www.learnswordplay.comwww.devonboorman.com

About Devon:
A:
I’m a swordmaster, a coach, a dancer, a writer, a speaker, and a dreamer.

Q: What inspired you to jump for joy?
A:
Sword fighting is a joyous activity. Doing it airborne was the natural next step.

Q. Your experience doing the jumping photos?
A:
Expectant, then awesome! Seeing how insanely cool the shots came out was very rewarding.

Q: How do you describe the feeling of joy?
A:
Completion, satisfaction, and, well… happiness.

Q: Your greatest passion?
A:
Sword fighting – the art, the skill, and the movement that comes with it are inspiring. The recreation of something so complex, and so fundamental for such a long time in our history is likewise rewarding. Plus… you get to play with swords.

Q: Your driving force?
A:
Right now? Swords – see above.

Q: Your philosophy?
A:
Hard to pin down – not sure I have a concise description of it. Mix of different ideas, in the end, hailing from all over the world.

Q: Anything in the world?
A:
I would sword fight more. At different locations, for different reasons. I can make it into travel, into work. It is just fun, this way. Am I working towards it? Kinda.

About Matheus:
A:
Been in Vancouver for over a decade, hailing from all over South America. I’m a mechanical engineer, but sword fight for a living. I find that that is, in itself, one of the most astounding things I could ever have dreamed of.
