This sweet girl is Joslyn. I always love taking photos of kids jumping for joy, its sometimes more challenging getting the timing right because they follow thier own beat – which is so beautiful – and the act of jumping around and being joyful is so present in kids. Always fun.
This is Antonia. I met her at an art exhibition through a friend of a friend, she is a photographer, Art Director and DJ. Our shoot was short and sweet. We got a couple of wonderful shots of her hovering high up in the air beside Lost Lagoon (we chose this location because she loves being in nature) in Vancouver BC Canada 🙂
“I will go on adventuring, changing, opening my mind and my eyes, refusing to be stamped and stereotyped. The thing is to free one’s self: to let it find its dimensions, not be impeded.” – Virginia Woolf
My first attempt at public speaking! Forgot a lot of what I wanted to say and fumbled my way through lol but, I did it! Let’s Put More Joy into Our Lives and Work. This Pecha Kucha presentation was done for the 2015 Quality Forum BCPSQC Health Talks. It was a great challenge and look forward to improving my skills at my next speaking engagement 🙂
“You have to do hard things to be happy in life. The things no one else is doing. The things that frighten you. The things others can’t do for you. The things that make you question how much longer you can hold on and push forward. Because those are the things that define you. Those are the things that make the difference between existing and living – between knowing the path and walking the path – between a life of mediocrity and a life filled with happiness and success.” – Marc and Angel Hack Life
This is Mane. Mane was a playful thrill seeker, and looked for the most challenging places to jump. Not surprising that he calls his company Urban Health Warriors his mission? “Our goal is to raise global AWESOME(ness) through playful and process-based health coaching…” – he is a joyful warrior indeed, travelling the world doing acroyoga everywhere he goes 🙂
“Three simple rules in life. 1. If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it. 2. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no. 3. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.” – Unknown
“Living well is an art that can be developed: a love of life and ability to take great pleasure from small offerings and assurance that the world owes you nothing and that every gift is exactly that, a gift.” — Maya Angelou
This is Michael. Michael is a long time friend and expert jump for joy-er. Kind, thoughtful and considerate, Michael has always been a huge supporter and helped me countless times with the jump for joy photo project. Thanks for helping to spread the joy Michael! 🙂
“The grace to be a beginner is always the best prayer for an artist. The beginner’s humility and openness lead to exploration. Exploration leads to accomplishment. All of it begins at the beginning, with the first small and scary step.” – Julia Cameron
“…it is only when we are suspended in mid-air with no landing in sight, that we force our wings to unravel and alas begin our flight. And as we fly, we still may not know where we are going to. But the miracle is in the unfolding of the wings. You may not know where you’re going, but you know that so long as you spread your wings, the winds will carry you.” ― C. JoyBell C.
This is Holger. Holger is from Germany, I met him though a friend he was visiting in Los Angeles. He was such a creative and spontaneous jumper I could barely catch him between giggling fits. A good laugh always makes my day 🙂
“Motivation is literally the desire to do things. It’s the difference between waking up before dawn to pound the pavement and lazing around the house all day. It’s the crucial element in setting and attaining goals—and research shows you can influence your own levels of motivation and self-control. So figure out what you want, power through the pain period, and start being who you want to be.” – Psychology Today
“I have this feeling now that actually no one is ever ready to do anything. There is almost no such thing as ready. There is only now. And you may as well do it now. Generally speaking, now is as good a time as any.” – Hugh Laurie
I went on a road trip with my dad and sister last week to Alert Bay, BC Canada. I was born in Alert Bay, and although I’ve never lived there, it’s is where my name is from. I haven’t been there in about 15 years.. so naturally, I had to do a couple of selfie jumps while I was there 🙂 it was a fun trip!
“When you are joyful, when you say yes to life and have fun and project positivity all around you, you become a sun in the center of every constellation, and people want to be near you.” ― Shannon L. Alder
I loved this magical shoot in the forest with the talented and creative artist Malorie in her paper dress… it broke apart as she jumped and a paper bird appeared in the shot 🙂 Just beautiful. Check out her Art Magazine to se more of her amazing creations: OPALUS
This is Luke. We got some great jumping shots thanks to the beautiful spring sunshine streaming into this railway tunnel (don’t worry, we played safely away from the train tracks!) in North Vancouver. Thanks for sharing the jumping joy Luke!
Enjoy your day today, get out and create something beautiful!
If you missed it the first time around, check out what inspires Charlie to jump for joy:
Q. Your experience doing jumping photos?
A: It was really, really fun. There are very few situations where I am encouraged to jump around and i wish there was more… October 6, 2014 Featuring Charlie Kerr
“Be as weird as you are. Don’t be afraid to provoke the status quo. Maybe some of your ideas are crazy. But crazy ideas are what shake the world. Crazy ideas make revolutions. So don’t be afraid to be different, and don’t be afraid to break traditions. Sure, some people will be frustrated and opposed to your weirdness. Some people might even criticize you. But even if it takes time for them to embrace your ideas, you’re showing them a new way of thinking. You’re planting a seed in their heads and opening their minds – and you’re opening your own mind too. The minute you understand that you can be weird and mold life your own way, you allow yourself to shake off the erroneous notion that life is just there, and that you’re just going to exist in it, rather than embrace it, change it, improve it, and truly live it.” – Marc and Angel Hack Life
“The challenge is to find out what being happy means to you. This is not an abstract definition of happiness we’re aiming for but the feel, the smell, the taste, and colour – and of course the sound – of happiness.” – Pete Cohen
“Everything we do is affected directly or indirectly by our attitudes. A change in a person’s attitude can affect just about everything else in that person’s life. Even a small shift in “attitude adjustment” can have a profound effect on what we do and how we do it… Since our attitudes are the result of our programming, it makes good sense to take a look at the attitudes we are living with, why they are what they are, and which of them we might like to change.” – Shad Helmstetter
“Challenge is the catalyst for success. Once you know this secret, it makes all the challenges you face in your life and work a joy to deal with. A routine of constant challenge builds strong beings, much as a good gym workout builds strong bodies.” – Peter Hirsch
“Your goals are present-day mental images of future events. They keep your mind firmly focused on what you want. Successful people, when not actively doing something about their goals, are thinking about them, visualizing them, imagining and feeling them already accomplished.” – David Lawrence Preston
“I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: ‘If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?’ And whenever the answer has been ‘No’ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.” – Steve Jobs
